Simha Sankranti 2022 TODAY: Know the auspicious time, importance and method of worship

Singh Sankranti is celebrated today – 17 August 2022 and marks the transition of the Sun from one zodiac to another. On this day the Sun moves from the Karak Rashi (Cancer) to the Leo (Leo) Rashi. Hence it is called Singh Sankranti.

Singh Sankranti Punya Kala will start on 17th August 2022 at 5:551 am and will be effective till 7:37 am. Sun will leave from Karak Rashi in Leo sign at 7:37 am. This auspicious day is celebrated as Singh Sankranti in many parts of southern India.

Leo Sankranti: Significance
Simha Sankranti honors the beginning of Chinga month in Malayalam calendar, Avani month in Tamil calendar and Bhadra calendar in Bengali calendar. Devotees worship Lord Surya and Lord Vishnu on this day and seek their blessings. While Simha Sankranti is mostly celebrated in the southern parts of India. People of Kumaon region of Uttarakhand also celebrate this day.

Singh Sankranti: Worship Method
This day is considered auspicious to start a new work or business. Apart from Lord Vishnu and Surya Dev, on this day, devotees also worship Lord Ganesha before starting any important work. Throughout the month devotees worship Lord Vishnumurti. Devotees also offer flowers, fruits and sweets to the deity and chant mantras to seek blessings from the deity.
