Relief from heat in Delhi due to storm, rain, traffic jams reported at some places
New Delhi. People got respite from the scorching heat due to thunderstorm and rain in Delhi on Monday morning and the minimum temperature was recorded at 18 degree Celsius.
Trees were uprooted in parts of the national capital due to the storm and traffic jams were reported at various places near ITO, DND and AIIMS on the first working day of the week.
According to the Meteorological Department, this was the first moderate-intensity thunderstorm of this season. The beginning of summer is considered from March 1. The Meteorological Department said, “Normally between March and May, it rains for 12 to 14 days with thunderstorms. But this season it rained only four to five times and that too was mostly dry.
The temperature dropped significantly on Monday due to rain and thundershowers. Between 5.40 am and 7 am, the temperature dropped by 11 degrees from 29 degrees Celsius to 18 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature at 8.30 am was recorded at 17.2 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, while 12 mm of rain was recorded till 8.30 am. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 37 degree Celsius.
Delhi on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 39.3 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.1 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal.
