Officially..New York City Club announces Alexandro’s move to Al-Ahly
The New York City club announced yesterday that its Romanian player Alexandro Mitria will be loaned to Al-Ahly Club until January 31, 2022, with a preference to buy the player’s contract at the end of the loan.
Al-Ahly club is waiting for the player to pass the medical examination, to officially announce the deal.
Alexandru had left New York City, heading to his country, Romania, to participate with his country’s national team in an international match within the days of FIFA, provided that he would head to Jeddah immediately after completing this mission.
The striker has played 12 league matches this season, scoring four goals and assisting two goals. During his MLS career, he scored 16 goals in 41 matches and is one of four players in New York City soccer history to score a hat-trick for the club. The Covid-19 pandemic had greatly affected travel to and from the United States, as the player’s wife had returned to Romania earlier this year, where she was expecting her first child. For his part, David Lee, director of the New York City Football Club, said to the club’s official website, “Because of the personal circumstances that Mitrita experienced during the Corona epidemic, we felt that it was the best step for all parties at this time to loan him to Al-Ahly. He added that he is definitely a good player and he has helped us win a lot of matches in the past 18 months. We don’t know how long these travel restrictions will last, so from a humanitarian perspective, we wanted to respect his desires to be closer to his family.
