Dahi Handi 2022: History

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Krishna was very mischievous in his childhood. He used to steal butter, milk and curd to eat by entering the houses of neighbors along with his Sakha troupe.

All the women of the neighboring village were troubled by the mischief of Kanha ji. In order to save their butter and milk from Kanha, the women started hanging their utensils at a height. However, Kanha ji with his friends managed to reach the handi by building a pyramid. Hence the festival of Dahi Handi is full of fun. It is celebrated with enthusiasm and devotion in all parts of the country. On this festival, small children act as Gopals to break an earthen pot hanging from a height.
