Dr Jitendra Singh pays tribute to Professor Satish Dhawan on his birth anniversary

News Desk | Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh has paid tribute to eminent Indian rocket scientist, former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Padma Vibhushan Professor Satish Dhawan on his birth anniversary. In a tweet on Saturday, Dr Singh said, “Like Professor Vikram Sarabhai, Professor Dhawan was also one of the founding members of ISRO and shaped the Indian space program in the early decades after the country’s independence.

Professor Satish Dhawan was born on 25 September 1920 in Srinagar and completed his B.A., M.A., B.E. (1945), M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering. (1947), Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Mathematics (1951) School of Panjab University, Lahore (Undivided India); University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; Educated from California Institute of Technology. He was a famous rocket scientist of India who contributed in taking the country’s space program to new heights.

He succeeded Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space program, as the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1972. He made many positive changes in the Indian Institute of Science and brought foreign talent apart from the country into it. Professor Dhawan had also established new departments and inspired the students for new researches. His efforts made the dream of communication satellite INSAT, remote sensing satellite IRS and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) come true. This great scientist died on 3 January 2002.
